Time to start thinking about the garden round 2 🥕spinach is still going strong, carrots, tomatoes and chilis were good, but pretty much everything else was a complete and utter fail. Going to look into a fly mesh and companion planting this time round - apparently certain plants grow better side by side, symbiotic relationships and all that 👩🏼‍🌾 #gardeningfordummies

It’s been a looooong while since I last posted. I’ve been entirely absorbed in my teacher training and unable to find much plastic free. But finally (!!) my #zerowaste prayers have been answered by the lovely @echozerowasteuk at @altymarket ♻️🙏🏼 refilled with @faithinnature_uk shampoo, bought a @georganicsuk toothpaste and an @earthconsciousuk deodorant. Excited to see what’s to come!

Simple changes that any market, cafe or restaurant can make away from packaging, landfill waste and single use disposables. Always inspired by @altymarket 🌱

After trialling a few companies and coops I finally found a locally grown, mostly organic and largely #plasticfree veg box from @groobarbswildfarm - literally 15 minutes away from our house! 🍅🥦🥕🥔 If that’s not #lowwaste & #lowimpact then I dunno what is 🙌🏼

It’s next to impossible to find anything package free in Manchester, so I was over the 🌝 to find bulk loose leaf tea at @atkinsons.coffee (in @mackiemayor) ✨ I wasn’t prepared with any bags, so I used theirs, fortunately they’re perfect for reuse ♻️

Need to get back to @unicorngrocery for some of these #plasticfree greens 🌿 they’re almost impossible for me to find elsewhere🧐

I got a @seedbom and @seed_ball as gifts earlier this year and finally got to use them now that the warmer weather’s here to stay 🌞 We did some guerrilla gardening on bare patches of ground in need of life. Excited to see the wildflowers and honey bees 🌸🌼🌺🐝 Has anyone used these before? The packaging is 100% recyclable or biodegradable✨

Super happy to see my fruit & veg box arrive almost entirely plastic free this week 👊🏼🥕🍌🍊not pictured is the kale I also received - which did come in soft plastic. However, it’s all organic, never air freighted and local where possible ✨

Plastic free veggies and homemade hummus (swipe for recipe) 🥒 To avoid as much plastic as possible I’ve been ordering organic veg from @abelandcole - most of their produce is either package free or wrapped in paper bags. In an effort to be as environmentally friendly as possible, @abelandcole only deliver to each area once a week, reuse delivery boxes (you can leave your box out for collection the following week), never air-freight and are working on going #plasticfree. In the meantime, if you want to be sure to avoid plastic, I recommend avoiding fresh herbs and chilled items, as these will most likely be packaged in plastic. *if you’d like your first box for free click the link in my bio 👋🏼* #notanad - just referring a friend

I made a #minimalwaste + #lowfodmap adaptation of @tessbegg’s pesto and it’s amazing 👌🏼 Recipe:
1 packed cup fresh baby spinach
1 tsp garlic infused olive oil
1/4 cup pine nuts (for nut free just use total 1/2 cup sunflower seeds)
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
Juice of 1 medium lemon
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
water to thin if needed
(recipe also suggests 1 cup fresh basil but I can’t get any without plastic and can’t grow it yet ❄️ so I omitted this)

It’s great to be able to support local, female owned, sustainable & low waste companies, such as @naturaldeoco - who were kind enough to send me their grapefruit & mint deodorant to review. If you’re UK based and looking for an earth (and body) friendly deodorant i’d highly recommend giving this a try - it smells beautiful, applies easily and most importantly, it works wonders for me 🌿

Zero waste 📖 @unicorngrocery - as much as I love my Kindle, sometimes I just want a real book in my hands. Especially if it’s a book I love or anticipate I’m really gonna love. I always try to resell or donate any books I don’t feel the need to hold onto anymore, but I still have a never ending shelf of books to read ♻️ anyone else feel the same? #bookhoarder

Everything I use in the shower 🛁 bulk shampoo in a refilled @aesopskincare bottle; face/body @atlas_apothecary soap gifted by the lovely Seona - all of her soaps are locally made (Cheshire, UK), natural and plastic free; @thebodyshop @fsc_international certified comb - I always brush my hair before showering & that way I don’t need conditioner: and finally, stainless steel @themisterbrand safety razor (I got this in Australia) & haven’t managed to cut myself yet! Way less scary than you might think and the blades make this a more affordable option than disposable razors after the initial investment 👍🏼

Mostly #plasticfree veggies @unicorngrocery - largely organic, local, fair trade and fairly priced too. Also so much more variety than I’d find in any supermarket - I’ve been looking for any squash/pumpkin that isn’t butternut (as it’s high FODMAP) and finally found a few here 🥕🥑🍊
