Father Browne’s last picture of Titanic. Taken shortly after weighing anchor at 1-55 p.m. on 11th April 1912

Frank Browne disembarked at Queenstown. During the voyage from Southampton he was befriended by an American couple who offered to pay his passage on to New York and return. After sending off a wireless message to his superiors, seeking permission, he received the response ‘GET OFF THAT SHIP.’ See this and many other rare images of taken by the extraordinary Father Browne at Titanic Belfast’s Life on Board gallery. #fatherbrowne #fatherbrownexhibition #titanicbelfast #titanic #belfast #discovernorthernireland #discoverni #visitbelfast #discoverireland

Have you visited @titanicbelfast? • #repost @gfp.78 The 6-floor building known as Titanic Belfast is the world’s biggest Titanic visitor experience, which is the place Titanic herself was designed, built, and launched in 1911.

Have you been to Titanic Belfast? The iconic building here is nearly as impressive outside as it is inside. And it is located just over 100 yards in front of where the Titanic's hull was actually constructed and launched.
.
Created with maritime metaphors in mind—including water crystals, ship bows, and even the White Star logo—the outside of the building is covered by 3,000 individual silver anodized aluminium shards that sparkle and reflect the water surrounding it.

The cargo liner Philadelphian prior to her launch on Thursday, 26 June 1919.
Laid down by Harland & Wolff as Yard No. 557, an ’N’ Type cargo ship for the Shipping Controller just nine days before the Armistice was signed, this vessel was one of a large number of standard ships produced during the First World War by many of Britain’s shipyards.

After the war the British Government sold off these vessels and the ones under construction and Philadelphian entered service with the Leyland Line, part of the International Mercantile Marine Company that also owned the White Star Line.

In order to speed up the completion of these types of ship, many were launched with their propellers fitted, something that under peacetime circumstances was not normal shipyard practice.

What a fantastic evening last night, as we launched our new summer exhibition Out of Stores: Explore Our Shipyard Collection in @titanicbelfast’s Andrews Gallery.
.
Through our heritage projects, including the restoration of the former Harland & Wolff Drawing Offices, now @titanichotelbelfast and the @nomadicbelfast, as well as our work with former employees and their families, we acquired a significant collection of artefacts from the shipyard.
We are also grateful to National Museums NI and @belfastharbour1 who have kindly loaned items from their stores to add to this one-off display
.
We are delighted to be able to pull together this exhibition to give a real flavour of what it was like to work in the yard.
The exhibition includes a selection of never-seen-before items, from caulker’s tools to tracing linen, an extra-large industrial sewing machine and a Thompson works theodolite, which would have been used in the Shipyard Fitting Departments in the shipyard.
.
.
The free exhibition will run from the 2nd to 31st August, for more information, visit titanic-foundation.org

Described as the 'Cape Canaveral of its time', Harland & Wolff was once the nerve centre of the largest shipyard in the world.
The entire White Star Line fleet was designed in the Drawing Offices and constructed on the slipways outside, including the legendary liners Olympic, Titanic and Oceanic and naval warship HMS Belfast.

The magnificent dual Victorian Drawing Offices, with their three-storey high barrel-vaulted ceilings, are the only surviving example of this type of shipyard architecture in the world and are now open to the public as Titanic Hotel Belfast.
Guided by the history and culture of the shipbuilding location, the hotel remains true to the story of Harland & Wolff.

Visit Northern Ireland to discover the home of Titanic and immerse yourself in the rich maritime history of beautiful Belfast #titanicbelfast #titanic #belfast #titanichotelbelfast #harlandandwolff #shipyards #historicalshipyard #logo #discoverni #discovernorthernireland #discoverireland #tourismireland
