Friends! It’s #FeaturedTeacherFriday 📚🧠💪🏻and I’d like you all to meet Francy Barnes! She’s been buying school supplies and necessities for her students out of her own pocket but her daughter convinced her to write to me. And I’m so glad she did! Here’s her story: “I teach kindergarten in a rural Title 1 school in South Carolina. My school, McKissick Academy of Science and Technology, is a magnet school that is determined to change the lives of our students. Most of my students have never left our state or even our small town. I want to bring the world to them.
The majority of my students live below the poverty line with caretakers and relatives that are not their parents. Around 85% of students in my school receive free and reduced lunch. Many students come from families that do not have more than a middle school education nor speak English. Last year, over half the students in my classroom did not have books at home to read. This broke my heart.
I became a teacher because I wanted to help children believe in themselves and reach for the stars. I teach almost everything in small groups to meet the needs of all my students. My classroom is positive. I want students to walk into the room and stand taller knowing that this room was made for them. The mindset I’m teaching to my students is that if they believe in their ability, work hard, accept help from others, thrive on challenge and don’t see failure as a way to quit but an opportunity to learn, then they will succeed at whatever they try in school and in life.
This wishlist is for my students, not for me. Everything on that list will be used by them daily. The area my students struggle with the most is reading. I have to be able to get books home for these kids to practice and read to and with their families. Kindergarten and the early childhood grades set the learning path for a child. Thank you for taking interest in my sweet students who deserve the best!” As always, if you’re inspired to help Francy and her kiddos, pls check out her wishlist in my bio. I love you all. 💗

👋 It’s #FeaturedTeacherFriday 📚❤️and I’d like you all to meet Monica Rodriguez from San Antonio, TX! She’s been teaching for 17 years and her positivity is so encouraging! “I am a first grade teacher at Holy Name Catholic School in San Antonio, Texas.  We are a school with very limited resources but full of amazing, caring teachers who want what's best for our students. Most years we don't have a budget for purchasing materials for our classrooms but we make do.  Since we are a small private school, our salaries are much less than our public counterparts and I do my best to budget and provide what I can for my students. I try to be creative to provide my students with meaningful hands on learning activities that will challenge them and encourage growth.  I love to see them expand their minds and enjoy it so much that they don't consider it to be work.  Their joy and smiles drives me to be the best I can be for them. I have been in the education field for 17 years now and cannot imagine doing anything else with my life. I've taught Pre-K, 1st and 2nd grade now.  I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with my bachelor's degree in Education/Youth & Community Studies.  On the weekends I teach Spanish to an amazing group of students who strive to be challenged and enhance their learning. This year I'm trying to incorporate flexible seating and technology into my classroom. We have very limited old technology and this gives us the  opportunity to prepare our students for the high tech world, even if it is in small doses. I am beyond grateful!Thank you for supporting teachers! "Teachers don't teach for the income, they teach for the outcome!" Thank you to everyone who reads and feels inspired to check out her wishlist (in my bio) and help! Love you all! ❤️💪🏻📚🧠
