When I talk to my clients about the importance of warming up for yoga, many of them laugh.
"Isn't yoga the warm up though?"
"I'm going to stretch enough in the asana practice, surely I don't need to stretch before too?"
Yoga is a physical activity just like any form of working out, and it's super important to warm your muscles, joints + glands - it should be a part of your practice every day, especially for a morning practice.
Be intuitive in your warm ups. Feel into what your body needs.
Stiff back? Do some cat/cows, and add in some freestyle movement to loosen up the vertebrae.
Sore neck? Turn it from side to side, up and down, drop your ears to your shoulders, and do some gentle rotations.
Tight hamstrings? Get into downward dog and "walk the dog" - alternating straight and bent legs to really loosen them up.
