This long weekend away celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary has given me a bit of a breakthrough! ~

I’ve enjoyed 3 quite long walks which have not irritated my psoas muscle one little bit! ~

Just wrapped up a jam packed couple days of training at Buildertrend! What a great place and great culture!  They are an incredible partner to work with. It was also awesome to connect with other builders and make friends from around the world!!

🔑Learn to walk before you run. Learn to hinge before you deadlift. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔑Grab a pvc pipe and keep it on 3 points of contact: buttock, thoracic spine, and back of the head. Next hinge at the hips and bring them backwards while keeping feet firmly planted on ground. Once you are not able to go lower, squeeze your glutes and return to the starting position. This movement should be done without the pvc lifting off any of the 3 points of contact. Once this exercise can be demonstrated appropriately for 15-20 quality reps, we can move on to a kettlebell deadlift. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔑Master the basics first and the weight will come later on. Better to decrease chance of injury and improve mechanics early on then to miss quality of time down the road due to injury or pain.

So in true "Melly spirit" I stomped ahead with my 5K training and was doing too much! I was running for 8 or 9 minutes as a beginner because I want to do better BUT... I created a Tail bone injury and haven't been able to run all weekend. 
I try my best to push myself harder when sometimes I just need to relax and enjoy the ride! So.... pulling myself right back and looking like a bit of a silly sausage... my times this week will be based on the couch25K app.. nonpuahing myself into something I am not ready for... no running before I can walk (pun intended!😂) I am going to take my time and actually train instead of just insisting I can already do it like a doughnut! 🍩 
I promised myself I would be honest whilst doing this so I am posting and not hiding!!! I bet that when you were a toddler, the first time you stood up you knew how to run. And it’s likely that when you were a kid, the very first time you hopped on a two-wheeler you knew how to ride. Oh and the first ever time you stepped into that hobby you love, you were instantly fantastic! Am I right?!?! No? Probably not... but you got better and better over time right? With practice? Even when it was hard... even when you were frustrated... even when there were times that it just wasn’t working! You kept at it. And you got better. Right? I promise you. Every skill you’re looking to develop works the same way. I hear from a great many of you about your eyeshadow frustrations and struggles. I hear that you can “never get it to look” however it is that you want it to look. I hear you. I see you. I’m here with a desire to help you. Because I truly genuinely believe that you will get better. With practice. With patience. With learning from mistakes. With not throwing in the towel and saying “I can never...” Never say never baby. Let’s keep working on it!!! .

I'm loving having this spare energy in the late afternoon. A very enjoyable dog walk getting some steps in. I managed 11,000 steps today.

How we spend our #fridaynight 😂... Ooschie escorted Rumor for her first @petsuppliesplus visit.  The girls working this evening were understanding of her fearfulness and gave us our space as we explored the store.  No one was using the dog wash facilities, so we took advantage and got some good practice getting in and out of the tub.  The step in tub was a breeze and she followed Ooschie right in and I was satisfied with that, but thought hey, lets give the raised tub a shot. Well Bam... She did it! (With Ooschies support, ofcourse 😜) We even turned the water on and she loved drinking from the hose. My Love for photography began as a preteen. I can remember my very first camera was a hand me down Fuji film given to me by my dad. I had no clue what I was doing and surely ruined dozens of rolls of film with overexposed, underexposed and completely out of focus garbage. Fast forward a few years and I started practising with the most basic point and shoot digital camera. I don’t remember the context of these flowers but I remember feeling so proud of my image and final edit. It’s nothing special in today’s world of presets, Instagram filters and Lightroom magic- but it inspires me to keep practicing what I love. I’ve had a few family and friends ask me why I decided to start posting my photos, and truthfully this is creative outlet that’s 100% for me. I get so much joy and pride out of capturing special moments for the ones I love and my heart explodes when I see my images hanging on their walls. Maybe one day I’ll pursue photography as a part time gig but for now this is all about Capturing Joy xo

I always try and sneak in a run during the first snow fall. There’s something peaceful, special, and magical about those first snowflakes and I love running through them. 
This year that run is replaced by a walk with 2 of my most favourite beings. 
4 weeks postpartum, 4 weeks without running - the longest I have ever gone since becoming a runner .
