All of my clients ask me this question during their consultations.  And every time, my answer is the same.

There are a huge number of factors that affect how long it will take for your babe to fall asleep when you begin to teach them independent sleep skills.  Many of those factors are out of your control, including age, developmental stage, health issues, weight, temperament, and current sleep props.  There are some factors you can control to set your little one up for success, such as the amount of light, external noise, your mindset, the ways in which you respond to your son or daughter, and your level of consistency.

Although I can't tell you how long it will take for your babe to fall asleep on those first few nights, I can tell you they will most definitely fall asleep.  And they'll get better and better at getting to sleep on their own as time goes on so you'll eventually be able to tuck your babe in bed, say goodnight, and leave the room.

My favourite time of day? 
06:00am. 
When the world is still sleeping, the world being Dave, and me and my Poppet can have a little sleepy cwtch before I have to start being authoritative and responsible Mummy (who is quite boring). Equally, my most dreaded time of day? 
Ten minutes before. 05:50am to be exact. 
When I get woken by said Poppet and I’m between wanting to run away for five more minutes sleep and not yet horizontal on the sofa in this cwtchy-coffee set up. 
It’s a rollercoaster of emotions. I’ll tell you that for free.

Anyone else have the bedtime blues? Every night it is literally a battle, from bath time, to reading books, to getting All the Barbies tucked in bed with her to turning off the lights and closing the door. To say my child is a little anal retentive (like her dad and me) is an understatement but a lot of this is just a ploy to stay awake. But here it is almost 10 pm and I’m finally sitting down to do some work and by work I don’t mean my own schoolwork but work for my job. Quite frankly, I’m too tired from getting her to bed to even do the work now. But as a single parent you keep pressing no matter what, because if you don’t WHO will? Some days I want to quit....okay most days I want to quit, but then she hugs me and tells me she loves me and I melt and wish that every moment was like that one....those are the moments I do this Mom thing for .

With the holidays quickly approaching, it's expected that we'll all be thrown a bit off of our normal schedules. We all know that one of the best ways to make sure our kiddos are feeling their best is to make sure they get good naps when they can. But what if you can't seem to get your kids to get good naps? Here are a few questions to ask if your baby isn't getting good naps:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1.  Is she/he becoming drowsy during feeding?  If she/he is, it will likely help to recharge her/his battery and will lead to a short nap.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Is she/he getting enough to eat?  Try a "top off" nursing session about 45 minutes before her/his nap to see if it helps.  Make sure that she/he stays wide awake during the feed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3.  Has she/he built enough fatigue?  The best time to put her/him down is when she/he begins to slow down and become glassy-eyed.  However, sometimes babies will show these signs early due to boredom.  If she/he appears to tire early, try changing activities to see if new stimulation helps.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4.  Is she/he able to handle more awake time?  Try pushing her/him another 15 minutes in-between naps to see if more time awake may help.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Anyone else deep clean when the seasons change?

So, I’m cleaning out my bathroom cabinets tonight and found some old product stashed in the back (texturizing spray and an old dry shampoo...swipe to peek at what I had!). Took a peek and here’s what I found. 
1- both have a “highly flammable” warning on them. 
2- the dry shampoo has Butane and Propane as the top ingredients. Even if they are “safe” amounts, I don’t like knowing that those gases are used in fuel, tires, etc. On my scalp, breathing in the fumes, any of it. I never felt like it really helped much, anyway (I know- unpopular opinion, especially if you know what brand that is). I’m so grateful to have found an option that both helped my hair heal and keeps me from dousing my head in gases. Because this teacher doesn’t have time to wash her hair everyday. 💁🏻‍♀️

There’s always going to be a wedding to go to👰🏻 a friend’s birthday to celebrate🥳a vacation👙a holiday celebration🎄work that stresses you out💻 you get the point!

So often people give me those☝🏼 excuses as to why they can’t begin their own health and fitness journey & I’m calling BS!

As I reflect on the past year...I ate the cake🎂 enjoyed family pizza nights🍕enjoyed a much needed vacation with the hubby🍻and spent many nights enjoying some🍷after my kiddos tested my patience that day...and yet? I’m in the 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 shape of my life right now and I just had a baby👶🏻 a year ago!

I’m opening my FINAL bootcamp of the year soon. We’ll start December 2nd and finish just before Christmas!🎅🏼 Don’t use NYE and “𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳” as your next excuse. Start building healthier habits NOW - I’m here to 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙮𝙤𝙪!!😊

LOCAL FOOD // tonight’s lazy dinner was thanks to a more industrious Erin and Robbie during harvest season.

Homemade tomato soup, lovingly canned from the tomatoes grown in our backyard and stored in the basement since August.

Pumpkin muffins baked yesterday from frozen pumpkin purée I made right after Halloween (from our Jack-o-lanterns, of course 🎃) And frozen tart cherries, purchased already pitted from a local farm and frozen since July (no photo)

Tired Erin is so thankful to have this delicious, healthy, and local food at my fingertips for a lazy, snack dinner tonight.
