Stress free Monday - have you tried engaging your senses and pushing the pleasure button? Do go ahead with my full permission to press that button NOW.
Engaging your senses is a mindful way to reconnect with life in a more grounded way. Get out of your head and thoughts by sniffing some scents that are pleasurable.
I absolutely LOVE lavender and ylang-ylang as essential oil choices. I love the smell of grass after rain, coconut, baking and salty sea air. Which scents would you add to this list or do my scents not make your list?

We often underestimate the effect that exercise has on stress. It is so important to incorporate exercise and fresh air in our daily routine in order to lower stress levels.

A healthy lifestyle is essential for students, especially at the university level. Instead of partying at night and being cooped up at home studying throughout the day, take out time to get some air and exercise.

The physical benefits of exercise—improving physical condition and fighting disease—have long been established, and physicians always encourage staying physically active.

Exercise and other physical activity produce endorphins—chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers—and also improve the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress.

Do you exercise to reduce stress levels?

Friends, I've been struggling. I can't really put it into words just now. But today has been one of those days where you wear sunglasses in public so people don't know you've been crying - luckily it was sunny most of today so my sunglasses were appropriate 😂 I have been telling myself 'you're doing really well'. I've been repeating that phrase over and over and I'll continue until it feels true. As I mentioned in my story this morning, I've also been reminding myself that nothing is permanent - this too shall pass. If you're struggling, give me a shout. We need to share our pain and not just our victories ❤️💚💛💜💙🧡 #mindfulness #anxiety #anxietymanagement #meditation #wellbeing #wellbeingprogrammes #wellbeingwithagnes #WWA #stressreduction #mentalhealth #health #relaxation #peace #calm #selfcompassion #selfcare #love #affirmation #woodland #scotland

Eating right for fall:
Pears are wonderful, but baked pears (sprinkled with cinnamon and honey) can help with clearing coughs, reducing constipation, and moisturizing the skin.

Ingredients: 4 pears, cut in half and cored 2 tablespoons of honey 2 to 3 teaspoons of cinnamon A handful of walnuts

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. On a baking dish arrange the cut pears skin side down. Sprinkle the honey, cinnamon and walnuts on top of pears. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the pears are tender.

#MotivationMonday

It's MONDAY! And the 1st day of the 1st Phorm Fall Sprint Challenge
If you have NOT joined, you have until 11:59 PM Central to download the app (link on my bio), put in your information, weigh in & take your day 1 photos in the app

Everyone has stress
I can tell you I have personally been on the losing end of stress & it can wreck havoc on your body.

Stress can't always be avoided, but how can you minimize it?
One way to reduce stress is to set realistic goals and have an action plan.
It is important to write down your thoughts, plans & goals because by putting it down on paper, you give your subconscious the information & control over what will happen. This gets rid of the feeling of helplessness and distress.

Prepare yourself for difficult situations; this reduces the stress of the actual situation. Spend 90% of your time coming up with a solution & only 10% of your time dealing with the conflict.
If something happens unexpectedly, take time to process it before reacting. It is better to process what has happened & compose yourself, than to react immediately without thought. Easier in concept but with practice you can make it a habit.

Don't forget to enjoy down-time; it is just as important to rejuvenate as it is to work.
Work should not take up your whole life. Balance is needed - work, play & rest.

Don't "swallow" your feelings; you may need to write in a journal, talk to friend/family member or just go to the woods & speak aloud. I'm a great listener; if you need to vent - please do feel free to contact me.

Don't walk away from a conflict; this doesn't solve the issue & it will burden you, causing more stress. Work through the conflict, no matter how difficult.

Fall reminds us of the being mode of mind, a period we can be reacquainted with this old friend and be weaned from excessive dominance of the doing mode of mind - Striking a balance between being and doing is an art . Complicated isn’t better. Better is better.

Whether it’s parenting, weight loss or the best way to say no when asked to do something you don’t want to make time to do, complicated comes naturally.

Let me help you with that last one first: “As it turns out, that won’t work for me.” Say it often.

Look, I know eating for weight loss can feel overwhelming. Please believe me when I say I have totally been there. So much information. Much of it conflicting. None of which I could perfectly implement anyway.
⠀
Try something with me?
⠀
Take a deep breath.
⠀
Relax your shoulders. Seriously, get them down away from your ears.
⠀
Close your eyes and picture Hugh Jackman.
⠀
Feel better?
⠀
I do.
⠀
Much better.
⠀
For real now I want you to close your eyes and think of everything you have to get “just right” to lose weight. Make a mental list.
⠀
Got it?
⠀
Ok.
⠀
Now take that mental list and ever so carefully ball it up and throw it as far away from you as possible. It’s imaginary, remember, so you throw it FAR. Like a top NFL quarterback can throw it far. (Zero idea about football here, so I can’t make a clever reference, sorry.)
⠀
Now that that’s out of the way I want you to make a new (very short) mental list.
⠀
Ready?
⠀
✅Eat foods that you enjoy.
✅Mostly from nutrient dense sources.
✅Including protein
✅In an amount that keeps you in a calorie deficit.
✅Do this even on weekends.
✅When you don’t do this, get right back on track as soon as possible.
✅Do that for *as long as it takes.* (Stop giving yourself arbitrary deadlines.)
⠀
Do not let this stuff get over complicated. Intermittent fasting, Keto, supplements, meal timing strategies,... the list could go on and on. They’re just tools. Some more useful than others.
⠀
Remember your new, short list.
⠀
You’ve got this:) Here for you any time.
💕💪

Today I have been hearing lots about the weather; people commenting on how wet it is, how gloomy it is, or how they don't like the rain. I've also observed people grimacing as they walk through the rain and using anything they can to protect themselves from what is literally drops of water falling from the sky. ⠀🌧
-⠀
Today, I challenge everyone to experience a moment of mindfulness in the spirit of Mindful Monday. Go outside, take your hood off, shut your umbrella and experience the rain hitting your skin.⠀☔
-⠀
Remember when we were kids and we would go jump in puddles? Let's go do that today. Let's not let our external environments control our internal states. ⠀🧠
-⠀
Focus on:⠀
1) What am I experiencing right now⠀
2) How does the rain feel (i.e. cold, crisp, warm)⠀
3) If your feeling tense, where does this tension live? ( chest, neck, shoulders, etc.)⠀
4) Smiling!!⠀😃

Today’s culprit - 𝐜𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 - is it healthy or what? ☕️ ⁣
**drumroll**⁣
⁣
The answer is that it 𝐜𝐚𝐧 be, but it depends...⁣
⁣
The good news is that coffee is potent with antioxidants. Because of this, it’s been shown to reduce the risk of lots of chronic illnesses - type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, the list goes on! ⁣
⁣
BUT WAIT, before you decide to make your second trip of the day to Starbucks because of this good news, consider these questions ...⁣
.
1. How much coffee are you drinking per day? If you’re like the average American, you might be drinking up to 3.5 cups per day or more 😮. ⁣
⁣
2. To add to my last question, how is your sleep? Are you drinking extra coffee to compensate for a lack of energy during the day? Is your coffee consumption making it tough to fall asleep at night? ⁣
⁣
3. How much of your coffee is actually “coffee”? Sugar, milk, sweeteners, these all can have negative health consequences down the road! ⁣
⁣
In conclusion, coffee is very bio-individual, and effects all of us differently. Some of us do great on it, while some of us (like myself) function better without it. But don’t drink too much, and be mindful of what else besides coffee may be in that innocent-looking Starbucks cup! ⁣

MEDITATION!... Wait! Don’t go!.. Hear me out!
.
As one of my favorite comedians, @joelistcomedy says, “Oh, I should sit alone, in my room, with my thoughts?! That’s your cure for anxiety?”
.
The idea of meditation is intimidating of some. Many people say that they don’t have the time, many feel that they will fail or it won’t work. Others simply don’t know where to begin if they were to even give it a try! But, that’s why I am here to ease your apprehensions and hopefully inspire you to try something new!
.
We have talked about the harmful effects of the stress response on the body when it is turned on for too long. The increased level of cortisol causes a cascade of damage through nearly every body system.. leaving you vulnerable to the development of chronic disease, infections and a diminished quality of life. Science fully recognizes and supports the practice of meditation for it’s astounding effects on reducing stress in the body, reducing the stress response held by the body, and reducing the effects that the stress response may have had on the body! Pretty cool.
.
Meditation is not a one size fits all practice! There are no requirements you must attain, no “right” or “wrong” way to develop your own individual practice. Meditation can be prayer. For others, meditation can be breath work and stillness, or movement and mantras. The only favor I ask of you, is that you come with a beginner’s spirit and an open mind!
.
Forget what you know about meditation! Forget the assumptions you have made or the preconceived idea of what the experience must look like!
.
Let me offer a place to begin. Today!
.
Set your phone timer for 10 minutes. Choose a comfortable place in your home, community, car, work environment where you will not be interrupted ( for me, this is sometimes the shower or the bathroom floor! ). Get comfortable. You do not need to sit cross legged on the floor, as seen on TV 😄. Close your eyes and take a big, loving breath in for 5 seconds.. fill your lungs! Pause. Now take a slow and steady exhale for 7 seconds. (Continued in comments!)
