At La Senda Verde I was hugged by a spider monkey, bitten by a squirrel monkey, fed a peanut by a capachun, humped by a teenage deer, charged by a tapir, licked by wild pigs and crapped on by a macaw 🐒🦌🐗🦜
I fed a whole (dead) chicken to a jaguar, made a toucan purr, saw the baby of a night monkey and went into the cage of a blinded Andean spectacled bear 🐆🐻 But most importantly of all, I helped sustain and improve the lives of animals that have been rescued, primarily from illegal pet trade.
For example, in the Amazon whole families of monkeys are killed in order to steal their babies, who are very popular as pets until they are old enough to wreak havoc in someone's house and are consequentially abandoned or beaten up.
Wild animals belong in the wild, not in people's homes or used for entertainment. This includes circuses, cub petting, elephant rides, photo opportunities and any other form of exploitation of wild animals for money.
If you want the opportunity to interact with these beautiful creatures then PLEASE consider spending time volunteering in a legitimate refuge, where the health and safety of the animals is their top priority. Otherwise, seeing them on an ECO-tour of their natural habitat is the way to go 🙂 .
