Seagrass canopy capable to reduce wave energy and promote sedimentation, which also can trap plastic rubbish. Our ocean is not our rubbish dumpsite. Stop single-use plastic and change to zero waste lifestyle.

@insidenatgeo

Seagrass is a productive ecosystem, just like mangrove and coral reef. This grassy garden home for many organisms such as sea horse, sea cucumber, filefish and hermit crab. Approximately 1/5 global fisheries supported by seagrass meadows.

Why do some seahorse species live in seagrass meadows?
Seagrass canopy created physical structure that attracting more zooplankton.. which increase food abundance for seahorse. In the same time seagrass leaves provide anchorage for seahorse to hang on and hide from predators. #SeagrassLove #SeagrassGuardians

Crime scence in seagrass meadow. Wonder who had devour this crab? Octopus maybe?
Seagrass provide habitat and protection to smaller organisms... which eventually will attracting larger predators. This support multi trophic level and create high biodiversity of flora and fauna. Protect, conserve and restore our seagrass meadows to ensure continuity of marine biodiversity. #SeagrassLove

Seagrass provide spawning, nursery, feeding and hunting ground for various of organisms.. some with commercial value as food, medicine and ornamental. Sea cucumber, sea urchin, pearl osyter, vary sizes of fish and many more. Let's preserve this habitat as it is only cover less than 2% of our ocean surface. #SeagrassLove #SeagrassGuardians

Seagrass is flowering plant in the oceans. It grows in shallow water such as lagoon, sheltered bays, intertidal and subtidal area where plenty of sunlight for photosynthesis. Seagrass also had heen discovered at deeper water depending on turbidity. Although seagrass covered less than 2% of ocean surface but it provides wide range of ecosystem services. #SeagrassLove #SeagrassGuardians

More than 50% oxygen we breath come from the oceans... main producer is phytoplankton follwed by marine vegetation included seagrass. In clear water you can watch streams of air bubbles produced by seagrass!!! #SeagrassLove #SeagrassGuardians

Seagrass provide vital habitat for both ecological and comnercial importance fisheries... with provide protein sources for coastal community. 1ha of seagrass can support up to 40,000 fish and 50 mollions invertebrates. Protect seagrass is protecting our seafood resources. #SeagrassLove #SeagrassGuardians

@insidenatgeo @europeaid @fundacaoami @ccmar.algarve

#Seagrass protect our shorelines and maintain good water visibility.
Complex network of rhizome and roots helps stabilize the sediment, reduce resuspension. High leaves canopy helps reduce wave energy.
You can help protect seagrass by reporting where you found them through #SeagrassSpotter or even support local seagrass conservation works. #SeagrassLove #SeagrassGuardians

Thank you to Mr. Johnny Chew for organising an evening talk about the importance of seagrass in our ocean.
.
Talk was conducted by Mr. Micheal Yap a marine biologist that has just completed his seagrass research project under UMS. It was a privilage to learn about seagrass species which are available along our coastline.
.
The only way to protect and conserve this important habitat is by educating ourselves and share the knowledge to others.
.
Thank you @diveborneobah !

Seagrass is our ocean green lung, absord carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. While those carbon convert into plant biomass and some deposited into sediment as #BlueCarbon
Unfortunately, unregulated coastal development and loss of meadows. This had disturb and release those carbon back into the environment. We need to protect this fragile habitats to fight #ClimateChange and ensure a healthy planet. #SeagrassLove #SeagrassGuardians #ProtectOurOceans #ClimateStrike #ClimateAction #ClimateHope #ClimatEducate

Seagrass come with different shape and size. Tropical species come with rounded or oval, needle like, ribbon like and long tape like.
They play important roles as habitat, as well connecting other habitats such as coral and mangrove, create very complex ecosystem.
