Day 32: Gut health. Think it's hype and doesn't matter? Please read... This is my face you guys. This is my painful, inflamed, broken-out face. And, if you look closer you can see it on my neck and shoulder.
I would love to tell you that after all this time of working with a functional medicine practitioner it is gone, but it's not. This takes a long time to clear up.
Lots of things contribute to poor intestinal health: chemicals/toxic load, stress, antibiotic use, processed food, low digestive enzymes, food allergies, infections, too much sugar, over-the-counter pain relievers... Our bodies are inundated with things it can't stand up against well multiple times per day. I had leaky gut and SIBO. (Look those up if you don't know about them.) I had joint pain, IBS, TONS of food sensitivities, especially to gluten and dairy, mood disorders, malabsorption, anxiety attacks, hormonal imbalance, migraines... These things still aren't gone after FOUR years of working on them. But, I have greatly improved! My food reactions aren't as bad, anxiety is much better, skin is calming down, migraines less frequent. I'm thankful, but I'm on a mission to help other people recognize these things while they can be proactive instead of having to spend hundreds and feel so sick!
Educate yourself about gut health and the gut/brain connection. At the very least consider taking a high-quality, multi-strain probiotic daily and digestive enzymes to help break down your food with each meal. Start today by chewing your food thoroughly to allow the enzymes in your saliva to start the breaking-down process. - 28 minutes ago
