I had such a wonderful time sitting at “the welcome table” with @downsouthhouse where creator Stacy Reece and I talked about We Are All Good People Here, Buckhead, the complicated legacy of the South, and what loving your neighbor might actually look like. (Spoiler alert: it doesn’t involve building walls, not on a micro or a macro level.) Though Stacy and I were recording a podcast, it felt like sitting down to talk with an old friend.
Afterward, I stopped by Refuge Coffee In Clarkston, Ga, employer and multi-pronged supporter of Clarkston’s vast refugee and immigrant population. I had a fantastic iced coffee & lentil pastry, prepared and served by people who have endured more in their lifetimes than I can wrap my head around. What strength, endurance, and spirit.
Clarkston truly is a city of refuge, and I was grateful for my time there. Grateful, too, for the tea towel Stacy sent me home with, which perfectly summed up the spirit of the day. (Scroll thru pics to see. Last image!) There are some good things happening in Georgia , y’all.
