Such a good reminder, especially when things may not be going how you want or hoped 💫 the universe knows best, and the best we can do is surrender control and lean in to our faith 💕

“It’s taken me a long time to process this one, for a little over a year I was preparing everyday for this email...except with a “Congratulations” at the start. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had so many people cheering for me and had gone through so many rewrites, interviews and the like. I didn’t get it though, and it hurt a lot. But what I found in the aftermath, was how much the process itself changed me and made me grow. I was more sure of myself, of my ability, my skills and my passions.

Now, instead of hanging my head or feeling down about this loss, I am proud of the perseverance I displayed and the person I found in myself through it. It has reminded me and still does today that rejection is sometimes a way to grow.”

Thank you for sharing your story + growth, @jacobckurtz ! When you put your heart and soul into something, it can be extremely hurtful, as you experienced. But to accept that, and instead be PROUD of your perseverance through it all is inspiring. It must not have been easy in the least bit, but you made it through and your mindset on rejection as a form of growth indicates that you’re going to be successful in anything and everything you pursue. We are all proud of you. Keep shining and #ReframingRejection Jacob!

Some #MondayMotivation for the rest of your Monday —⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While our current world prides itself on praising success, what they fail to highlight is the amount of time people failed and got back up that made them successful.

Change your methods, never change the end goal! You are capable of everything you envision.

Rejections sting! Sometimes they make us question our abilities and skills that we’ve worked on our entire lives. But YOU are the only one responsible for making your goals and dreams come true. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes rejections will throw us off base, but ultimately pull yourself back and TRUST yourself. Even if some people can’t see that, you have to see it within yourself to keep going.

“The summer before I was to graduate college, I applied to every internship I could think of. Time after time, I was rejected, but I brushed it off because I was so certain that this rejection would never come. I believed I was qualified, my recommendations were solid, and my materials were the cream of the crop. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then this email came.
.
.
Not going to lie, I cried. I got angry at God. I sulked privately as some of my classmates announced prestigious internships online. I felt like a failure. I felt as though this was a sign that I would be an unemployed college graduate come December 2018, something that was not only mine, but my parents’ worst nightmare.
.
.

I felt like the biggest disappointment on the planet. I beat myself up over it for weeks. .
.
Thankfully, God doesn’t give up on people who follow His calling. Less than a month after that email, I got my first staff job in my field, which opened the door to a better full-time job after I graduated.
.
.
Looking back, I wish I had handled the rejection better. It wasn’t so much the actual rejection that bothered me - it was what I thought it meant for my future. But I should have remembered not to be so hard on myself because the future is out of my hands.”

WOW, thank you for sharing your story, Amanda! Proud of you for not giving up. You said you wished to have handled the rejection better, but it seems that you grew so much from it and THAT is incredible and something you should be proud of. Congrats on your job, and for #ReframingRejection that way you did! 💥

“This was kind of a slight hit to my soul. But I knew it wasn’t meant for me if I didn’t get it. 💁🏽‍♀️ I can still be my own barista in my kitchen.”
—
THAT’S RIGHT you’re gonna be the best god dang barista your kitchen has ever seen! (And when you feel the time is right, you apply to 10 more coffeeshops because each one is different and the world deserves your beautiful character and your delicious coffee to start their day 😤) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you for sharing, and helping to #REFRAMErejection .

I know sometimes it’s hard to see that, but trust in whatever you believe in — God, fate, the universe, that when one door closes, 10 more open. Ultimately it’s up to us if we open our eyes to see them. .
.
Keep thriving. 💥

It happens to us all at some point or another: life deals us a bad hand. It might take the form of a rejected job application, a loved one letting us down, our business not taking off in the way we’d hoped it would or any one of myriad other ways. We all have to encounter this kind of situation, it’s just a question of how we deal with it.

One technique that I find very useful is reframing. As the name suggests, it is a technique you can use to change the way that you look at a situation and, in many ways, is very similar to the techniques that our children learn these days about the growth mindset. Instead of wallowing in the disappointment, you recognise that disappointment for what it is and then look at what you can learn from that situation. Instead of thinking “I’ll never get that job”, think “It’s a numbers game and I’m one more application close to that yes”. Instead of “that product was a flop”, try “Okay, so I know what things to avoid next time”. Reframing is not just empty “positive thinking” but an effective way to change the way in which you look at a situation. When you look at a situation from a different perspective, you can see different outcomes.

So next time that life deals you disappointment, try to reframe how you view it. What can you take forward? What about it can actually take you close to your goal?
