Did you know that today is National Nut Day?! 🥜💚 Nuts are not only delicious but they are brilliant in the fight against unhealthy snacking ✅ 
I recently read about a study by a software engineer, who made a spreadsheet to rate lots of different foods by how well they satisfied his hunger. He deduced that the perfect snack was an apple and either seven almonds or a one-inch-cube of cheese. Try it!

Nuts contain lots of good fats (including omega-3 essential fatty acids) that fill you up, as well as being packed with protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. 
They are portable and fairly non-perishable too, so you could carry a small tub of them in your bag wherever you go for when you feel the snack-attack urge. Or if you’re out and about and need to buy something quickly, most shops sell small snack packs of nuts.

Ah, weekly leave. Those glorious few days where you don’t have to think about anything, you can sleep relatively normally, work doesn’t (or at least shouldn’t) cross your mind, and often, your normal eating habits go flying out the window. Sound familiar? You’re not alone here.⁠

So many of us find ourselves straying from our normal routines on days off, which includes our eating habits. Best way to fix it? Make a conscious effort to keep as much routine in your meals as possible. Continue to prep your meals, or plan them in advance. Eat at the same time for each meal. By all means, leave some room for spontaneity - maybe it’s wings night at your local bar and your team wants to catch up, your other half has planned a surprise date night, or you want to do a BBQ with the kids down at the beach. Just don’t use days off as an excuse to go nuts and demolish everything in sight.⁠

First, we're going to wag our finger and say (as we do to omnivores) : the majority of your proteins, carbs and fats should be from whole, unprocessed foods. BUT - for strength based athletes with high protein needs and lower calories, a protein powder is excellent in your toolbox.
. 
Whilst we do have a couple of favourites (@vivolife and @awesomesupplements) there are five standards we look for in plant-based protein powders.
.
1) A COMPLETE AMINO ACID PROFILE. In plant-based powders, you want to have a mixture of plant sources that fill all nine essential amino acid requirements. (That goes for your daily protein intake, too.) This is usually a combination of pea, hemp, or rice.
.
2) RAW PLANT-BASED INGREDIENTS. No chemical shitstorms.
.
3) NON-GMO AND ORGANIC. Good for the environment, and not mutated zombie shit.
.
4) TASTE and TEXTURE. More than whey-based powders, these are a minefield in plant-based powders. To put it mildly, most of them taste like grass-flavoured shit. The nice tasting ones (see above) are few and far between, but they do exist.

5) Preferably, NOT SOY-BASED. As we've said, overconsuming one food group isn't ideal, and it's easy to do if you're drinking your soy as well as eating it.

We're putting together a brand new programme starting in November. This is specifically for plant-based (or wannabe plant-based) athletes who want to lose fat and gain muscle in 60 days. We're looking for five clients to test it out at a HUGE DISCOUNT, help us work out the kinks, and get amazing results we can use as a case study. I’ve been hit with a bit of mum guilt over the past 10 days. I’ve been trying to juggle new mum life and working life and it’s HARD!

I set myself the challenge to create a Christmas recipe ebook and so I’ve been in full swing with work! I’m so excited about this project and can’t WAIT to share it with you but I also feel huge amounts of guilt that I’m having to split my attention between work and Koa. Luckily I can work on the design aspect sitting on the floor next to him while he has tummy time.

Reality check: we can only lose about 0.5–1% of our body weight in true body fat per week.
-
If we lose much more than that, there’s a high chance it’s water weight (or worse, that some muscle’s been lost too ☹️).
-
That’s why seeing those daily fluctuations isn’t always the most accurate indication of weight loss.

Instead, we suggest focusing on scale TRENDS over time. Here’s how:
-
1️⃣Weigh yourself first thing in the morning.
2️⃣Record the number and move on from it (remember, we don’t care about a single day’s weight).
3️⃣Using the “average” equation function built into Excel or another type of spreadsheet, generate the average.
*️⃣Make sure to collect at least three weigh-ins from the week, hopefully under the same conditions each time (same time of day, same scale, etc.). 4️⃣Once you’ve calculated the average weight, use it to compare one week to the next.

When you use the average, it will “flatten out” those daily fluctuations that inevitably occur due to a long list of reasons (hormone changes, you ate something high in salt last night, you didn’t sleep well, etc.).

In over five years of running, this is the first time that I’ve not been able to remember when I last ran 💚

Due to horrid dental surgery it’s been a good few weeks, and before that I hadn’t run much due to one thing and another. But I’ve booked a half marathon which is happening in less than four weeks, and today is the day to start again 👍🏻💪🏻💚 It felt really good to be out there again, cold but hot at the same time, peace and quiet, beautiful views, and that same feeling of pushing myself because I know I can do it, even though it feels hard. 
A respectable four miles to start with, more later in the week. WHAT IS A BALANCED BREAKFAST?⠀
When it comes to breakfast,  strive to get a little bit of everything: whole grains, protein, fruit, veggies, and fiber in your breakfast! Check out some of my favs below.⠀

Whole Grains (complex carbs): whole grains are not only good for energy but also for…pooping! That’s right, they help speed up digestion. Some of our favorite whole grains to eat in the morning include oatmeal, sprouted bread, and whole grain English muffins.⠀

Protein: Protein in the morning is great for keeping you fuller longer. Fruit/Veggies: When is it not good to eat fruit and veggies?! A good rule of thumb is to try and get in at least 1 fruit and (or) veggie in during breakfast. This will help set you up for success later in the day!⠀

Fiber: Fiber is another great thing to load up on in the morning. Fibers aids in keeping you fuller longer and going #2. Some of our favorite fibrous foods include whole grains, bananas, berries, potatoes, and chia seeds.⠀

Healthy Fats: Don’t be afraid to eat fat! We love eating healthy fats in the morning such as avocado, olive oil, chia seeds, and nuts.
