At first glance, it might be hard to see how much diversity there actually is in the bacterial world, and this makes it even harder to understand why this diversity is so important. See, I never really started to understand the importance of microbes until I found out there are trillions of them inside us 🥴. They live everywhere: in our mouths, our stomachs, our intestines, even on our elbows. Without our bodily microbiome, you wouldn't be able to digest food, make vitamins, or survive a common cold.

So what happens to your gut microbiome's diversity when you don't eat healthy? Studies show people who eat lots of junk food only have about HALF the amount of species in their gut as someone who eats a very diverse diet of different proteins, grains, vegetables (THATS 50% LESS DIVERSITY!!). So the more foods you eat, the more species of bacteria your digestive system is exposed to 👍.

But it goes farther than that. Every experience we have effects what species are found in and on our bodies everyday. Studies show people who have who have been born through C-section have a higher chance of having digestive issues later in life. This is because they are not exposed to all the bacteria in their mother's birth canal that contributes to building immunity 👶🏽👧🏼👨🏻👵🏾! .
So if you don't get the right amount of exposure to bacteria in your lifetime, it has all kinds of effects on you later on in life. Don't go crazy with the hand sanitizer, get your flu shots, and eat those veggies 🥦💉🧪.

💥HOW TO REDUCE CALORIES💥

It’s all about that calorie deficit, right? But…how do you go about creating that deficit? It can be frustrating trying to reduce your caloric intake!
⠀
Fasting in the morning is a great strategy for some as it simply eliminates calories from one meal you’d normally eat.
⠀
Filling up half your plate with veggies works well because veggies are very low calorie. So, it’s going to be much harder to overeat with only half of your plate left for the rest of your calories.
⠀
Limiting snacking has been proven to help people lose weight through a deficit. Again, you’re simply limiting how many times per day you put food in your mouth. Simple.
⠀
One big salad per day will fill you up and almost always be low calorie. Be careful here; if you’re adding bacon, eggs, ranch dressing, croutons, dried fruit to your salad - you just made a calorie bomb (explode!). Be mindful, yo.

Drinking calories is not a great way to spend calories. You won’t be filled up at all, and you can slurp down 400 calories like its nothing. Avoid it at all costs. if you’re drinking a Bell’s Two Hearted, I’ll give you a pass.

The smaller plates tip has been overfed to you guys, I get it. But it works... People tend to fill up their plates. So give ‘em less space.
