I used flexible dieting throughout both my preps and in the off season. ⠀

IIFYM (if it fits your macros) and flexible dieting are the same, but I feel like some people think the left side of the chart when they hear IIFYM cause “if the donut, pizza, burger and sundae fit, why not?!?” Cause micronutrients and balance is important. ⠀

Flexible dieting helped fix my relationship with food- nothing was “bad” or off limits. I began to realize I can have a cookie here and there and fit it in my macro goals while also eating fruits, veggies and chicken- it didn’t have to be ALL OR NOTHING! ⠀

When we talk about “low-income and nutrition”, we aren’t just talking about not having enough money for nutritious foods.⁣

Sometimes, we’re talking about not having a car to get to the grocery store in -10 degree weather. We’re talking about the store within walking distance charging 5x as much for fresh fruit and vegetables. We’re talking about having to work 50 hours a week to make ends meet, which leaves neither the time nor the energy to plan a menu full of home-cooked meals.⁣

I’m glad that we’re making all these things a part of the discussion. And I hope we’ll continue to do our best to fight for higher wages, more food equality, and better access to health (and nutrition) resources for the people who need it the most.

Some days you just need a nice simple stack of pancakes and a full mug of coffee in the morning 🥰this weekend marks the end of my yoga teacher training and I’m nervous and excited to graduate from the program and be certified and use this to help others find the peace within their bodies that I have found within mine through my practice🌻yoga has had such a healing impact on me and I can’t wait to see where this will take me in my future and my career, especially as I’ve had some rough patches with school and everything. This gives me hope for the future, and there’s no stopping me now 🧜‍♀️

You are worth your own kindness. It’s a practice and it’s giving yourself grace 💛. Gosh knows we get it. Small edits matter. Use mantras if helpful. I always say.....talk to yourself as loving as you would talk to a child...because you ARE talking to YOUR inner child :). Give him/her love.

The other day I overheard a girl and her trainer talking about all these strength gains she had made. She was so happy. Then he had her step in the scale 😩 I was getting my headphones out of my bag right next to them and saw the tears fall from her eyes. She started apologizing and he said well we just need to cut your calories and you need to work harder. 😡It was so hard to see.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
She had been so proud of her body getting stronger, but because it hadn’t gotten smaller none of that mattered? First of all the scale is not reliable. Maybe she could have pooped and been down two pounds.  Maybe she ate more sodium the day before fire and was holding in to some water. Who knows and who cares? You can absolutely track fitness progress (if that’s important to you) without weight, measurements, or aesthetic changes. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Are you going up in weights? Are you getting after? Are you doing more difficult movements? Are your everyday activities getting easier? Are you sleeping better? Is your back pain improving? Can you go up stairs without getting out of breath? Are you just feeling better overall? I know it’s hard to set up away form aesthetic changes, but keep in mind our bodies are going to change throughout our lifetime and if your goal is to live well as you age, going off intrinsic and overall well-being Nd is much more positive and helpful measurement, than a number in the scale or back of your pants.

I instantly think I’ve “failed” in some way. But in reality, it’s the exact opposite. I’ve “succeeded” in creating a bigger life for myself. My impact on others is bigger and my presence in this world is bigger. I guess my jean size had to level up to fit the rest of my life👖✌🏾

PUMPKIN PILLOWS WITH MAPLE FROSTING!! 🌱 🎃 🍁 because I FINALLY got on board with pumpkin season now that it’s November 🤷🏼‍♀️😅 no real reason, I love pumpkin as much as the rest of you. Just wasn’t in the mood with all this glorious SF weather lately!

Attempt # 1: delicious, great flavor, but suuuuper soft.
Attempt # 2: (in photo) overcorrected so they have too much flour which means less pumpkin flavor.
Attempt # 3: TBD.... they are in the oven now!! Vegan, gluten free, soft, a little chewy, deliciously spicy (how can you go wrong with pumpkin spice?!?!) and the maple frosting is super sweet but the cookies aren’t.

I was the perfect mom... until I had a kid.

Prior to being a parent, I judged other parents hard.

My kid would NEVER have a tantrum in public. Done ✅

My kid would NEVER bother others on an airplane. Done ✅

My kid would NEVER watch too much TV. Done ✅

My kid would NEVER eat too much junk food. Done ✅

Dear past self: never say never.

I’ve learned so many things the hard way through parenthood.

And I’ve also learned to be more compassionate toward others, to judge less (if at all), to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever I can, and to simply let my human-ness show as much as possible.

Motherhood sucks the life out of me day in and day out, while simultaneously filling me up in a way nothing else ever has.

It’s messy and loud and exhausting and I’m here for it all!

This is a message to my fellow mamas out there- I see you. I see your tired eyes and your full hearts. And I see you doing the best you can, and I’m rooting for you!

Now mamas- tell me about you and your babes- how many do you have? What are their names? What’s your favorite thing about each of them!? My son Jack is 2 and one of my favorite things about him right now is how he thinks his nipples are so funny and they’re ticklish! Your turn! 👇🏼👇🏼
