You know how some people know what they want to be when they grow up…..from the time they are a little kid? For example, I have so many friends that knew their entire life that they wanted to be a teacher and influence a child’s life.
Nope. Not me. I had no clue. At first, I wanted to be an artist. Later, I remember telling my Mom at an early age that I wanted to work a cash register at the local pharmacy. WOO HOO! Big aspirations.
When I finally went to college, I wanted to be a broadcast journalist. My major was Radio/TV/Film. I wanted to be a news broadcaster. I quickly found out that was not my thing. I kept searching. I graduated with a Degree in Journalism, majoring in Advertising and having a minor in Marketing. I spent 16 years in an Advertising/Marketing career before I realized that my true calling was to work with plants outdoors and make the world a better place for everyone and all of God’s creatures. I was called to be creative!
Fast forward another 7 years…...I already had 2 beautiful girls and I was finally in a position with my family and life to start working towards my dream of becoming a landscape designer. I became a Master Gardener. I started working towards my Horticulture degree. I would take any class or read any book that would teach me about plants and landscape design.
I didn’t care how long it took to get there because I knew I would make my dream come true. And here I am….always stepping forward….always learning. I started my business this year. And I graduate in Spring 2020.
Anyone that has a dream and a passion can follow that dream and make it come true. Just keep taking steps forward. It doesn’t have to be fast. No sprinting required. I consider myself the turtle in the race between the turtle and the hare. I may be slow, but I am crossing the finish line!
