storytime, shapeshifting, & shapemaking!
tomorrow is day 1️⃣ of #YogaShapeShifters ! in this challenge we’ll learn about 7 fascinating shapeshifters from folklore around the world & play with not-so-ordinary poses inspired by these creatures.
so day 1 is LESHY, a male woodland spirit from slavic mythology who protects forests & wild animals. he can transform in shape & size from a blade of grass to a tall tree.🌳 leshy is often depicted with hair & a beard of vines & grass, pale skin, bright green eyes, & no shadow.
though leshies aren’t exactly evil, they’re said to be terribly mischievous: confusing wanderers & luring them into caves to tickle them to death. (wtf right?) they enjoy misguiding humans & kidnapping young women (also wtf). one can resist leshy sabotage if they turn all their clothes inside out & wear their shoes on opposite feet. which is something my 3yo does on a daily basis anyway, so he’s set if he treks through any eastern european forests.
🌳 in honor of leshy, we have a funky take on tree pose! i call this “leaning tree trying to scratch an itch.” [pose inspo: @krisjamaica ]
be sure to check out my cohosts for more on leshies & funky trees! can’t wait to see yours!
