The dumbbell pullover is often thought of as a back-focused exercise (and it is a great back exercise, although I would argue itโ€™s more effective for lat engagement using cable resistance or machine).

I personally really like to integrate the dumbbell variation into my chest day.

If you have good mind-muscle connection with your chest, it can be used as a really effective pec builder. .
I reserve it for the last or 2nd last exercise of my chest programming.

One of the best feelings in the gym is getting a pump and feeling massive. One of the worst feelings is when that pump goes away and you go back to feeling small ๐Ÿ˜ญ. But what exactly is the pump? And does it actually play a role in building muscle?

The pump occurs from fluid accumulating in the muscle. The fluid comes from blood plasma and is known as edema. The pump is also known as โ€œtransient hypertrophyโ€ because itโ€™s temporary. Thatโ€™s why youโ€™ll return back to โ€œnormalโ€ size shortly after your workouts.

Youโ€™ll often see people advise to โ€œchase the pump.โ€ This essentially means doing whatever you can to get as much of a pump in the muscle as possible. While this โ€œfeelsโ€ like itโ€™s working because you literally see results and feel huge during the workout, it has a minimal impact on muscle growth. Instead, you should be focusing on progressive overload which is the key component when it comes to gaining strength and size.

Now, that doesnโ€™t mean a pump is useless or that you should avoid getting a pump. It just means that the pump should not be your primary indicator of an effective workout. You will and still should get a pump while focusing on progressive overload. If you donโ€™t get a pump in the muscle youโ€™re supposed to be working, thereโ€™s a good chance your form is off and youโ€™re not working the muscle properly. Increase all your pressing movements like the bench press, push ups and shoulder presses by adding face pulls into your routine 2-3 times a week.

1. Keep a full range of motion.
2. Stay within a 10-20 rep range.
3. Avoid using your body to help move the weight in the positive portion of the movement.
4. Do not let the weight free fall in the negative portion of the movement. Stay in control and let the delts, rhomboids and external rotator cuff muscles control the weight back.

Are my lats that much I bigger on the right?

NO, actually theyโ€™re smaller. 
Theyโ€™re just more defined because I am leaner and my waist is smaller, creating the huge drop / V taper.

The left pic is me on my current lean bulk, and the right was during my last cut. 
On the left Iโ€™m sitting at ~ 176, on the right Iโ€™m sitting at ~ 162. (Neither are peak bulk (185) nor peak cut(155). You would think Iโ€™m bigger and have more muscle on me in the picture on the right but itโ€™s the exact opposite. 
I have built a lot more mass on my bulk the only difference is I have a lot more body fat on me.

You CAN NOT accurately assess your physique at HIGHER body fat levels. 
The leaner you get, the more you can see how much muscle you really have.

The 3 Step Skinny Guy Transformation @fitness _model.1 
To pack muscle on the scales need to move. To achieve this you need a calorie surplus. Something in the region of 250-500kcal per day above maintenance. This will help you gain between 0.5-1 pound per week. If you are a beginner &/or naturally very lean this is a good rate to go at. -
You will build muscle if you do this and train hard consistently. -
Now the gains won't be pure muscle. Anyone who says you can make exclusively lean gains is full of BS! -
You will gain a bit of fat along the way (although not as much as in the image above - that's just there to make a point).
