This is one reason why fiber diversity is so important! ⠀

If we’re not eating a diverse diet, full of various plant foods, then we aren’t feeding the different types of beneficial bacteria🤔 ⠀

As humans we tend to eat the same foods over and over (I know I do) but this might be affecting how diverse our gut microbiome is. ⠀
⠀
We want more diversity in our gut because different bacteria do different things for us and our body. ⠀
⠀
If we eat the same 10 foods, we might be promoting the growth of only a few species of bacteria which means we don’t receive all the benefits bacteria has to offer. ⠀
⠀
Since bacteria do different things.. this is why research is moving towards finding out what each does and how they do it because this means better targeted therapies & better understanding of how gut health impacts the brain. ⠀
⠀
Having an overgrowth of bacteria or presence of pathogenic bacteria can lead to neurological & mental health issues, gastrointestinal issues like SIBO and IBS and our gut microbiome is related to reproductive issues like PCOS, endo & more. 😳 ⠀

More research needs to be conducted but we know that eating a variety of plant foods will help increase gut diversity and therefore help your body thrive. ⠀

There’s a misconception out there revolving around probiotics. Many influencers want you to think that popping a probiotic is all you need to promote a healthy gut but it’s soooo much more than that. Probiotics provide some immune benefit when you ingest them but it doesn’t automatically populate your gut. ⠀

Another point to remember is different bacteria do different things. Some bacteria are more helpful to consume when dealing with diarrhea & others for constipation. This is why targeted therapy research is so interesting and will hopefully provide more insight in the near future. ⠀
