So we are getting close to the time of year where we tend to overindulge a few times, Christmas Day, New Year Eve and a few Christmas Parties on top!

VG GF NO (REFINED) SUGAR CHOCOLATE FUDGE BROWNIE

I am one lucky bean who has the best flatmates ever who look up not only vegan but gluten-free and sugar-free dessert recipes and then make them with me 🥰

This weekend we made chocolate fudge brownie with my og chocolate frosting and crushed Ritter vegan chocolate with marzipan on top. Super quick, super easy, and did not require baking (great for us because we’re all broke and don’t like to spend money on additional electricity 👅). Sooo how do you actually make it, you may ask?
BROWNIE BATTER
• boiled sweet potato - we used 3 I think, just cut it in small tiny cubes and boiled for around 20 min (yet I’m not sure as our trick for potatoes is to not track or check the time, but to just forget about them and occasionally check the texture)
• nut butter of your choice
• honey, or any liquid sweetener you like
• pure, unsweetened cocoa powder

That’s literally it – if you want you can add a bit of coconut oil inside. Combine all of the above together, keep mixing and just check the consistency. If it’s too thick, add a bit of coconut oil, if it’s too runny -  bit of nut butter, too bitter – more sweetener. Once mixed, pop in the freezer until the batter thickens (ours took around 20 – 30 minutes). FROSTING
• cocoa powder
• honey
• melted or soft coconut oil
For a brownie the size of a big flat bowl (very professional measurement, I know, but that was our form for the brownie 🤙🏼) I used 2 tablespoons of each ingredient – but increase accordingly if you want to make more. Combine all in a bowl and mix until super-duper perfectly smooth – it may take a while and clog at the beginning but don’t get discouraged!! Add splashes of plant milk if it gets too thick.

It was so soft, so gooey, so chocolatey, so lovely. Honestly tasted like any other good quality brownie but without all the ingredients that make me feel horrible. Obviously I didn’t feel the lightest after eating two big slices but it was nothing compared to irritation I can get from other, even vegan, bought or home-made baked goods. Make it, enjoy it, thank me later 😎

🍃HOW MANY PLANT FOODS DO YOU EAT?🥕🌽🌶🥒🥬🥦🥑🍆🍅

A few months ago the American Gut Project (the largest study of it's kind to look at how diet and lifestyle affects the human microbiome) shared some pretty cool findings😎.
•
The researchers found that those eating 30 different plant-based foods a week had more diverse populations of microbes in their intestine compared to those eating 10 or fewer different plant foods per week.
So we know eating plants is good but this really highlights that eating a big VARIETY of plant foods is even better, as it seems to encourage the growth of different species of helpful bacteria.

If you've currently got the same 5 veggies on rotation - don't panic. The point isn't to get overly fixated on hitting 30 this week (especially if you're currently on 10) - the point is to keep your diet diverse, try to mix up what you eat. And remember that red and green capsicums would count as 2. 😁

HOWEVER your hormones don’t go out of balance for NO REASON.  I do love using @dutchtest with my clients to help identify hormone imbalances and get a better picture of how their bodies are making and processing hormones but most of the time that isn’t digging deep enough.  While seeing hormones is helpful it doesn’t always tell you WHY they are off in the first place. 👩‍🏫

Root causes of hormone imbalances can be numerous.  Are you constipated?  Why.  Is your thyroid not functioning properly?  Why.  Do you have inflammation?  Where is it coming from.  Are your adrenals fatigued?  What are your stressors.🤔 ..
It isn’t enough to spot treat symptoms but you need to take a step back and look at the big picture.  I spend years with imbalanced hormones and ultimately helping them get back into balance involved healing much more than just my hormones.  In fact it had little to do with addressing the hormones themselves but rather addressing the root causes.🌱 .”

If you feel like you are dealing with hormonal imbalances and are experiencing symptoms like irregular periods, painful periods, hormonal acne, PMS, heavy periods, no periods, spotting between cycles, weight gain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, mood swings, bloating, periods that last longer than 7 days, periods that come farther than 35 days apart, large clots, fibroids, cysts, etc then your hormones may need some attention.♀️😩

Everyone who knows me, knows about my gut health struggles 🤷 and the move to #Muscat has come with its own set of woes for my already sensitive gut...I had been in so much pain for quiet a few days and dreading another visit to the doctor's. 
It cannot be anything but destiny when @callingcollin sent me a link right around that time to @salaamspaceyoga 's stories announcing their gut health workshop with @culturedfooduniverse!

I didn't even need to think twice before signing up for it! It was such a wonderful experience combining all the things I was needing at that time - meditation, movement and some gut-healing nourishment!
