#GreatExpectations and #highhopes its enjoyed....
Just finished and currently reading:
I’ve had A Bound Woman is a Dangerous Thing, a poetry collection by DaMaris B. Hill, on my shelf for a number of months now and this weekend I was finally compelled to pick it up. It is a powerful collection, chronicling black American women and their various experiences of being bound- from slavery to Jim Crow and the ‘prison industrial complex’. It is a collection full of fire, passion and fury but it is also a reflection of Hill’s love for these women and an acknowledgement of their legacies.
Following on from that, I finally picked up Emma Dabiri’s ‘Don’t Touch My Hair’ and I have so many thoughts! So far it is excellent and I look forward to sharing all the reasons why in a review post once I’ve finished it. Huge thank you to @jeanellnicolereads for hosting the giveaway that allowed me to finally get my hands on this one- I’m so happy I chose it!
Finally, I’ve just picked up A Drop of Patience by William Melvin Kelley (gifted by @riverrun_books ). I read Kelley’s ‘A Different Drummer’ around this time last year and the time just felt right to make a start on this one. Let’s just say I have very high hopes! 🤞🏾
