Sunrise 🌄 at the Grand Canyon. Are you team sunrise, or team sunset 🌅 ?
Our family is team night owl🦉 . Our boys have always been on the later side to go to bed, and as a tradeoff, they sleep in and wake up 20 minutes before we have to leave for school on most mornings. Likewise, the main time I can get stuff done after a workday/ parenting is after they go to bed, so I end up staying up late, and also sleep in until 20 minutes before my kids wake up 🤪
So it’s kind of a big deal that I’ve been dragging myself out of bed to take in several sunrises over the past year (Death Valley, Sonoma mountaintop glamping, and Grand Canyon). Sunsets are easy - we are pretty much always awake then, and since we love them - we make a conscious effort to stop and appreciate them whenever can (ie last night at Laguna Beach in my stories). Sunrises require waking up when it’s still pitch dark and freezing out, and sometimes hiking/ driving to a viewing spot. I haven’t had much luck convincing the rest of my family to join me 😴, but I think I’m a convert. There is something really magical about starting the day with meditative gratitude and awe for nature. 💛
