Hey you. Yeah, you. In case no one has told you lately...you're going to be just fine.💖 You're going to make it through. However hard things may seem, they won't last forever. Don't let the silly trivial things of life get you down. Don't let the hard, real crap in life KEEP you down. Know that whatever path you're on, you're going to make it. I want to say things aren't always as hard as they seem, but....sometimes they are JUST as hard as they seem. But it WON'T be forever. You've made it this far, and you're going to make it even further. I promise. Don't give up. Never ever EVER give up on yourself. Love youuuuuu.💖

Stress around holiday eating is real, but it doesn’t have to be! ⠀
⠀
It doesn’t help that the workplace, the gym, and even our families perpetuate the BS that you need to earn your Thanksgiving meal. Consider the popularity around Turkey Trot 5Ks and Turkey Burn HIIT classes. Being active can feel good on a day off, sure, but you DON’T need to earn your Thanksgiving dinner. ⠀
⠀
Your body requires food regardless of your activity levels. Break out of the FitBit mentality that steps = snacks or miles = mom’s cornbread stuffing. ⠀
⠀
Today alone, I’ve seen too many stories featuring people’s “clean meals” before the holiday, sweaty gym selfies “to prep for Thanksgiving,” and Apple Watch snapshots of calories “earned” for next week’s feast. Exercise can be fun just because it’s a movement you enjoy or a break from your work routine. Perpetuating the idea that we need to earn our food through exercise takes something positive and makes it punitive. ⠀
⠀
Y’all, Thanksgiving is ONE day. For some of us, maybe it’s two days or a long weekend. All things considered, a traditional Thanksgiving plate is rich in nutrition from amazing foods. Some of these holiday favorites we only enjoy once or twice per year, so we might as well savor them without guilt or pre-determined calorie needs! ⠀
⠀
On that note, what’s your FAVORITE holiday dish? Mine is stuffing 😍

we have a new blog post up today giving 5 tips for handing your thanksgiving meal & the tips are relevant whether you’re tracking your intake or not - how to build a balanced plate, how to eat more mindfully, etc.

for years I’ve talked about how to “handle the holidays,” but i have felt my desired message shift this year.

the act of tracking your food vs. not tracking for one day is irrelevant. what you eat that one holiday meal is negligible - whether your plate is balanced or not.

if “not tracking” a day means that you go nuts and eat everything in sight, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.

tracking macros, for you, is just about numbers & not about actually changing your habits. if a binge is inevitable on an untracked day, maybe you’re restricting too much. or maybe you’re just not focusing not he bigger picture: that tracking intake food should be about gaining awareness and a better understanding of how to fuel yourself for different goals and seasons of life.

so ideally your thanksgiving looks like the first example >>
tracked or not, you enjoy your thanksgiving meal. calories will probably be higher. NBD. enjoy it without stuffing yourself to the point of discomfort then move on with your life.

the goal is to NOT look like the second example >>
you go crazy on thanksgiving because it’s an untracked day, a “cheat day,” a holiday, whatever. then you beat yourself up and self-sabotage the next day, and the next. you had an imperfect day so ‘screw it, nothing matters anymore.’ the result: guilt, frustration, no new habits, forever wondering why you never experience progress even though the truth is that this is a regular occurrence.

For a long time, I tried to lose weight by eating “healthier.” At the time, people were pushing how much “healthier” olive oil was than butter. So I made the swap and pretty much only used olive oil in my cooking and baking. In my mind, olive oil was “healthy” so it didn’t matter how much of it I consumed.

Well, that didn’t really play out so well for me. I felt pretty frustrated that even though I was eating the right “healthy” things my weight wouldn’t budge. Now I know why I was having a hard time getting the results I wanted! Even though olive oil was labeled a health food, I still was eating too much fat overall (& carbs, but that’s another story 🙃). The purpose of the info graphic is not to say one of these fats is better or worse than the other. I just wanted to share some facts about their caloric and macro content to help you understand that they are pretty similar from that standpoint. Sure, they differ in how they are made and the vitamins they contain, but the truth is if you eat too much of ANY fat or too many calories you’ll find it difficult to lose weight. That’s not to say that olive oil isn’t “healthy” or cannot be a part of a balanced diet. But just like with anything, if you aren’t eating it in proper portions you might not see the results you expect or want.

That’s where macro counting was helpful for me, because it helped me realize what foods “cost,” and it didn’t put a label on any foods. Now, I actually use all three of these fats (although canola oil much less than the others), depending on what I’m cooking or baking! I just make sure I balance them with my overall nutrition.

Did any of you used to believe you could eat whatever food and lose weight so long as it was healthy? And which of these fats is your preference and why?!

HI! IT’S ME IN REAL PEOPLE CLOTHES WITH MY HAIR DONE. ⁣
⁣
Yes, I actually get dressed up, look like a normal human, and don’t get asked “if I just got done working out?” The very rare occasion I am forced to go inside a store such as, but not limited to, Publix. I digress… Let’s stay focused… I’m going somewhere with this: ⁣
⁣
Sticking to a nourishing nutrition protocol and workout program that enhances your life, supports your health and yields physical results you desire needs tp be something you can sustain 365 days a year. Regardless of the season, travel, event or all the other million life happenings. ⁣
⁣
I here this all the time: ⁣
I’ll wait until after the “holidays.”⁣
2020 will be my year to get fit/lean/slim/toned… ⁣
I’ll get started on a brand new plan once I have more time. ⁣
⁣
Since now the “Holidays” before Halloween (I know I wasn’t the only one who saw halloween costumes and Christmas cards in the same store) and go through mid January this is a 75 day period. Thats about 21% OF AN ENTIRE YEAR. ⁣
⁣
You need to find something you can be consistent with 100% of the time not 79% of the time.⁣
⁣
This means it must be simple, customized to you, enjoyable and feel like second nature almost like brushing your teeth. ⁣
⁣
The past 5 years whether its the Holidays or I have morphed into a real human for other reasons Flexible Nutrition and a workout program that is customized to my schedule has helped me and my clients stay consistent 365. It’s just a lifestyle. ⁣

Do you find yourself saying "I don't know how to listen to my body"?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I use to say that ALL THE TIME. But here's the thing...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"I don't know how" is a cop out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A cop out I told myself for YEARS.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You actually know plenty.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I challenge you to ask yourself if "I don't know how" is REALLY true?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe it is.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But maybe it isn't.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm thinking you CAN take the time to listen to your body and learn what hunger is.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stop hyper focusing on the macros and start focusing on your actual hunger.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hungry? Yep, time to eat!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lonely, bored, sad, or tired? Nope, don't need to eat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today in my stories I'm breaking down the number one culprit of mindless eating and the key to STOP DOING IT.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And PS...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you mindlessly eat...WELCOME TO THE HUMAN RACE. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nothing has gone wrong.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's when you're feeling out of control about it or it's getting in the way of your goals that it's time to get WOKE.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mindless eating is easy to do. But it's also easy to fix.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
QUIT TELLING YOURSELF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don't forget to check out my stories & let me know if you're up for the challenge I talked about! Who's with me!?

You know the old saying “a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips” lol

Food is meant to be enjoyed, and it’s totally ok to eat the foods you love...but sometimes we need to prestige delayed gratification
The beautiful thing is that food you love will always be there!
Stay goal oriented!

I don’t think a lot of people realize what they could potentially be setting themselves up by going on extreme diets just to see temporary results
_
Demonizing certain foods & undertaking extreme dieting practices to lose weight in the short term
_
Fat loss needs TIME
_
Yes you can lose 'weight' fast, but that weight will be mostly water & even worse muscle which all come with a metabolic & hormonal cost
_
Healthy & sustainable doesn't result from eliminating an entire energy source like carbs from your diet
_
XTREME dieting practices/fad diets generally demonize certain foods & use a ‘good’ vs ‘bad’ rating system
_
The problem with this is; it goes against our brain chemistry when it comes to food
_
People land up rewiring their brains creating food & body image issues
_
Which results in never being able to enjoy food again without guilt & anxiety
_
They become obsessed & attached unless it meets the very narrow criteria of ‘good’ foods set out by the fad diet
_
Not only do they suppress metabolic & hormonal systems longterm, but now they eating less & gaining weight
_
So, along with the possible metabolic suppression & rebound weight gain from the fad diets being unsustainable
_
You also run the risk of creating an eating disorder & developing unhealthy relationship with food for the rest of your life
_
Beware of fad diets disguised as healthy & being your weight loss solution that’s evaded you your entire life & know what they can really do to you
_
It might seem great in the short window of time, but down the line it’ll come with some price to pay
_
Fat loss, it's a process that doesn't happen fast & overnight with applying something unsustainable
_
It happens with a consistent application of a healthy, sustainable lifestyle forming good behaviors & habits along the way
_
Stop putting some sort of deadline on your fat loss results, seeking week to week changes. That will only set you up to fail
_
It's a process that needs to be livable for the rest of your life, not something you desperately trying to 'stick to based on self-pressured will power that makes you feel like crap

𝗠𝗬𝗧𝗛: Temporary diet adherence is still effective

Wrong.

Adherence is a key aspect of nutrition success and it goes beyond the temporary.

In fact it’s about the long term approach. The sustainability.

So yesterday we went through the quick guide to choosing a diet.

But what now? Well if it works and you love it then you need to keep on keeping on.

None of this temporary crap.

None of this “trying keto just until I get to xyz then i'll go back to normal”

If you are thinking like this then you shouldn’t be doing this diet in the first place.

One of the biggest barriers to success is weight regain.

And weight regain is the manifestation of lack of nutrition adherence.

This is truth. #trustmeimadietitian

Drop a 👍 if you are about that sustainable approach!
