Today's Lunchbox Lesson: EXACERBATE and EXASPERATE

EXACERBATE: a verb, meaning "to make worse," "to aggravate a problem,” or “a state or feeling,” "to intensify or irritate." Exacerbate comes from the Latin “exacerbare.” Used also when describing the effects of a disease, pain, or an emotion.
For example, "The rainstorm will exacerbate the erosion on the hillside." For example, “Because his nerves were exacerbated, he decided to seek therapy.” EXASPERATE is a verb meaning "to infuriate,” “to test the patience of,” OR “to provoke” a person or a thing.
It comes from a different Latin word, "exasperare," which means "to make very angry." Exasperate also usually takes an object.

For example, "The doctor did not mean to exasperate his patients waiting for their appointments; his car died on his way to work and he was late." #learningenglish #english #englishteaching #esl #speakingskills #speakingenglish #reading #efl #eslteachers #communication #writingskills #writing #knowledge #eslclasses #trainer #englishlanguage #englishskills #internationalstudents #professionalservices #professionaldevelopment #professionalgrowthk

⠀
- Excuse me, barmaid! I'm afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra-large boy with beefy arms, extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fishbone!

Winter is coming! -
Present Simple. 𝗔𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗩 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆.
