This is my submission to the @kanyerartcollection 's Finding a Place of My Own call for art. The prompt asks artists to explore the idea of searching for one's place in the world. The instructions are inspired by the work of @mr.babies , and encourage artists to combine a single collage element with four to five different backgrounds.
My submission, "The Guardian of Eden," is born from my love of archaeology, art, and cats. The Guardian perches atop an ancient gate, its eyes locked onto you as you gaze at the colorful world beyond. When choosing artwork for the backgrounds, I was thinking about concepts that are sometimes just out of reach, or just behind the gate. I settled on the five you see here: Understanding, Solitude, Knowledge, Innocence, and ultimately, Eden.
The last image is glued and serves as the final collage. I was drawn to Albert Bierstadt's Rocky Mountains (1863) as a background because the lush colors and nature of the beyond were such a departure from the monochromatic desert of the here. It reminded me of being in a stagnant place and looking for something better. It may be a challenge, and take a long time, but I assure you it's possible to outsmart the Guardian and make it thought the gate. - 4 hours ago
