This week is poetry week @chaptersstorytellingclub so I went shopping for a children's poetry anthology. I have LOTS of grown-up poetry books and educational texts but I was lacking something weighty, truly child-friendly and varied - not any more!
The Nation's Favourite Children's Poems - edited and compiled by Alex Warwick, published by BBC Worldwide Limited and with a foreword by Spike Milligan - has got it all.
A wonderful collection of poetry in all shapes and sizes, it includes all the greats - the ones I forgot about, the ones I could never forget about and the ones that passed me by.
I started reading this, cross-legged on the floor of Waterstones this afternoon. 15 minutes and a numb bum later, I decided that I should probably get to my feet and pay for it. I did so very gladly and I'm about to take it to bed with me.
This will be this week's book source - I will report back on what the children think of it and I'll be in tomorrow morning with my favourite! - 6 days ago
