I recently stopped caring about how many reps I'm doing. The standard is like doing 8 reps in a set. Now I just pick a weight around that rep range and just lift until the last rep really hurts. I think this is probably the best way to build muscle.
Definitely do this with isolation workouts like a dumbell curl. It is risky to do this with compound exercises. If you are doing a compound exercise like squats or benchpress, make sure you have a spotter.
A lot of people lift and stop right when it starts to hurt. You build a lot of your muscle on the last few reps. If you persevere through the pain and can get an extra rep or two you'll make some serious gainz. - 10 hours ago
