Don't wait for fashionable, lets be avant-garde.
When Lebanon is mentioned, most vinos and aficionados will refer to Château Musar, a reputable winery established in the Bekaa Valley by Gaston Hochard in 1930 with an exceptional consistency of 97.75% for wine production, despite the tentions and difficulties of war. Today I would like to talk about Château Ka.
After graduating in oenology from Dijon's university, Akram Kassatly returned to Lebanon in 1973 to open a winery with his brother. Unfortunately due to the circumstances of war, and destruction of equipment, he had to wait until 2005 to produce wine again. Despite all these setbacks, he has now one of the most modern winery and he is also one of the biggest volume producer. I recommend Source Blanche and Source Rouge for an approach and discovery to Lebanese wines as for the more enthusiasts and connoisseurs the 2006 Fleur de Ka is definitely a must.
A perfect blend of Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah aged in French oak for two years giving a deep ruby appearance, a nose of spicy herbaceous, forest floor, chocolaty, cherry, plummy and leathery characters leading to some extraordinary and comlex flavors of dark fruits, cherries, liquorice, tobacco, followed by the medium and well integrated tannins and a long lasting finish. The wine is a nectar.
