Have you ever been to Oita?
I first arrived at Oita airport in late August 2000.
I left the UK on 22nd, I probably arrived in Tokyo on 23rd. I then spent a few days in Tokyo for the #JETprogramme orientation.
This is the first time I've been back to that airport since. Every other time I've flown in Japan has been via Fukuoka airport.
I have only a slight memory of my arrival at Oita airport.
I had flown with one other late-arriving JET, Simon.
Most JETs had already arrived and been through their Tokyo and local orientations in late July and early August.
I was late because my university released all it's degree results in late July making it too late for my visa to be processed.
Simon and I were met by our respective supervisors and taken separately by car, even though we were heading to the same town, Taketa.
I remember feeling really nervous about going with these two Japanese strangers.
My supervisor and his second-in-command. Neither of these men spoke English and my Japanese was basic.
I remember that we stopped for lunch but I don't remember what I had or how much I ate but there were cidada in a tank by the table and they showed them to me.
It would have been about a 3 hour drive and I know I slept most of the way. Jetlagged and tired from the Tokyo orientation then a passenger in a car for a long time, my body would have taken the opportunity to recharge.
This time arriving in Oita airport was fun. I can now speak Japanese. I was with my boyfriend and I knew what was going to happen next.
I wonder if the sushi was on the baggage carousel back in 2000? 🇯🇵Check out the link in my bio: Japanese speaking community, speaking challenges and speaking support🇯🇵 #speakjapanese #nihongoconnection #nihongojapanese #Japaneselanguage #japaneselesson #日本語の勉強 #japanesevocabulary #japanesegrammar #japanesewords #travelinjapan #learnjapaneseonline #japanesephrase #japanesephrases #dailyjapanese #practicejapanese #ilovejapanese #japaneseculture #lovejapanese #にほんご #speaknihongo #jetaa #jetprogram #ajet #nihongo #learnjapanese #learningjapanese #japanesestudy #studyjapanese #JLPT - 12 hours ago
