• A U T U M N R E C S | Day 7 •
We made it to day seven - hoorah! Today, we’re recommending a duology that you guys probably all know, and lots of you have already read: the SIX OF CROWS duology by Leigh Bardugo. Just in case you haven’t come across this series before, SIX OF CROWS take place in Bardugo’s Grishaverse, which she established in her first book - and series - SHADOW & BONE. The Grisha are a type of gifted individual, whose talents may lie within the fields of elemental magic, magic to create, magic to heal, magic to hurt. In this duology, we follow a ragtag group who live on the streets of Ketterdam, a city that values commerce above all else. Here, gangs rule the streets, and merchants control the flow of money. And many powerful people are vying to get their hands on an extremely valuable - and volatile - product. Kaz Brekker, leader of the Crows, is approached by one of the richest merchants in Ketterdam, and offered a lot of money in exchange for something - or someone. Which will require a covert operation, and a daring heist, to break into (and then out of) the formidable Ice Court. SIX OF CROWS is much darker than Bardugo’s previous work: the characters are morally grey, the setting more gritty. I love the members of the Crows, who all have their own distinct personalities, their own motivations and histories; it’s so hard not to fall in love with them. Even if you weren’t too fond of SHADOW & BONE, I can’t recommend this duology to you enough!
