I've left my safe and orderly world of radiology and been spending it in the chaotic world of critical care this month as a part of my ESIR curriculum. Let's say it's been interesting. ✨
It's a complicated life vs death battle. You celebrate the small victories and get frustrated at the setbacks. It's a balance of providing hope and managing expectations. There's a lot of tough decisions, consultations, discussions and patience. ✨
Sometimes we win. The patients get better, leave the unit and eventually... home. We like those endings. We get hugs, thank yous, tears, flowers and desserts. But sometimes.... death wins. Not the desired outcome. The funny things is we still get the hugs, thank yous, tears, flowers and desserts. Because we fought with and for their loved one. That's what matters!!! .
